Catalogue/Edged Weapons/Non-German from WW1 and WW2
   

     Over the past few years, we have seen an increasing interest by collectors in the edged weapons of the Axis powers, some of the neutral states and the post-war powers. Until the recent reference works by Kurt Glemser and Robert Berger, little information was available to the collector. We anticipate this to be a high growth area in collecting and are making every effort to obtain such quality edged weapons. Many of these scarce and rare items can still be obtained at a moderate cost. We consider this a prime investment area for the future.

M-1935 Austrian Air Force Dagger. Zeitner, Wien VIII TM. An example of this rare dagger is shown on pages 17 & 18 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger. Chrome-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to the pommel in the form of a stylized crown of Rudolf II, and a crossguard of stylized wings with a central undamaged enamel white triangle on red background insignia of the Austrian Air Force. Underside of the right quillon is equipped with a small hook to hold the portepee in place. White enamel over wood grip shows light surface wear/minor scratches, but no chips or loss of enamel. Plated cross diamond-section blade grades EX+/EX++ showing minor surface wear with /age residue near the crossguard but no nicks to the cutting edges. Chrome- plated scabbard shows light surface wear with portions of yellowed factory lacquer remaining, and a faint depression on the center obverse. Scabbard is complete with two integral scabbard bands/rings with a vertical propeller in the center. Royal Bulgarian Army Dagger w/Hangers & Dress Belt
No maker. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear with dark age patina to the undamaged open Simon's crown pommel which is complete with its delicate cross in perfect condition. Crossguard is in the form of two outward facing lion heads with raised Bulgarian crest on the obverse center. Reverse features a raised facsimile of the Bulgarian Military Order for Bravery. Portions of original factory lacquer remain in the recesses of the crossguard detail. Light orange celluloid grip shows light surface wear with one tiny hairline crack adjacent to the pommel, and is complete with tight twisted silver wire wrap. Plated, double-etched blade grades excellent+ with light surface wear and a few minor nicks to the lower cutting edge. Is complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. Obverse blade features the Bulgarian Simon's crown and Cyrillic "BN" (cypher of King Boris III-1918-1943), while the reverse bears the Cyrillic inscription, "Za Nami Boga" (God is with us). Dent-free, silver-plated German Army Officer pattern scabbard shows light surface wear/age patina with some dark gray speckling and minor crazing. Dagger is complete with rare hangers constructed of double silver bullion straps, gray/brown velvet backings, silver oak leaf buckles, slides, and pebbled clips with nickel-plated suspension clip. Upper suspension clip shows some lifting to the nickel plating, with overall condition of the hangers grading excellent+. Included with the dagger is a rare Bulgarian Army Officer brocade dress belt constructed of ribbed aluminum bullion measuring 50 mm wide backed by white cloth and with three alternating gold stripes running the length of the belt. Belt is complete with original large gilt circular buckle with a central crown rampant lion (symbol of Bulgaria) inside a laurel leaf wreath. Nice combination with ultra rare brocade belt! Royal Bulgarian Army Dagger w/Deluxe Hangers
Robert Klaas, Solingen (stamped kissing cranes) TM. An example of this rare dagger appears on pages 36-38 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to undamaged open Simon's crown pommel which is complete with its delicate cross in perfect condition. Crossguard is in the form of two outward facing lion heads with raised Bulgarian Cross on the obverse center. Reverse features a raised facsimile of the Bulgarian Military Order for Bravery. Medium orange celluloid grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or chips, and is complete with tight twisted silver wire wrap. Ultra-Rare Royal Bulgarian Labor Corps (Trudovaks) Dagger
No maker. A photograph of this ultra-rare dagger being worn is on page 263 of Volume V of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich. The dagger is so rare that at the time the chapter on axis daggers in Volume III of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich was written, an example was not available, and an Eickhorn sketch of the proposed dagger had to be used. Brass hilt fittings show virtually no wear. Pommel is in the shape of a closed Simon's crown. Crossguard features quillions of a lion's head and pick axe/spade with the central quillion block of the Bulgarian crest in white metal. Orange celluloid grip has a few hairline cracks and minor surface wear with tight gilt wire wrap present. Plated, double edged blade grades excellent, shows wear and light sharpening and has four spots of lifting where the scabbard runners have rested against the blade. Has its red felt blade buffer pad present. Dent-free scabbard is perfect with the black leatherette showing no damage. Oak leaf scabbard bands & twisted rope rings show excellent detail (lower ring is slightly misshapen). Between the scabbard bands is the emblem of the Trudovaks in white metal. Ultra-Rare Royal Bulgarian Labor Corps (Trudovaks) Dagger w/Chain Hanger
Puma, Solingen (puma head inside diamond) TM. A photograph of this ultra-rare dagger being worn is on page 263 of the 1st edition and page 268 of the 2nd edition of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume V. Ultra Rare Personalized Royal Bulgarian Labor Corps (Trudovaks) Dagger
Puma Solingen, puma head inside diamond TM. Hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to the silver-colored pommel in the shape of a closed Simons' crown with light age/wear to the gilted brass crossguard featuring quillons of a lion's head and pickaxe/spade, with white metal central quillon block in the form of a Bulgarian crest. Dark orange celluloid grip shows light surface wear with one hairline crack and a slight area of discoloration adjacent to the obverse crossguard. Reverse quillon block is personalized with the engraved gothic initial "S" filled with red enamel. Grip is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap. Plated double-edged, double-fullered Kriegsmarine style blade grades excellent+, showing light surface wear with some minor gray speckling primarily on ricasso, and is complete with red felt blade buffer pad. Brass hilt fittings show light surface wear to the pommel in the shape of a closed Simons' crown, and crossguard featuring quillons of a lion's head and a pickaxe/spade with the central white metal quillon block in the form of a Bulgarian crest. Dark orange celluloid grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or chips, and is complete with twisted brass wire wrap. Plated double-edged, double-fullered Kriegsmarine style blade grades excellent+, showing light surface wear with some minor gray speckling, but no pitting or nicks to the cutting edges. Royal Bulgarian Army Dagger.

No maker. Silver plated hilt fittings show light wear to finish on pommel and crossguard. The open-crown pommel has had the cross on top of the crown removed. The crossguard features lion head quillions with the Bulgarian crest on the obverse and a facsimile of the Bulgarian Military Order for bravery on the reverse. Orange celluloid grip shows several minor hairline cracks and light surface wear with one tiny chip adjacent to the grip ferrule. Tight twisted copper wire wrap is present. Plated, double-etched blade features floral pattern with crowned cypher (Cyrillic "B") of King Boris the Third on the obverse with the Cyrillic inscription "Za Nami Boga" (God is with us) on the reverse. Blade grades excellent with light wear and some lifting near the blade tip and a few specks in the etched pattern. Has its leather blade buffer pad intact. Czechoslovak Air Force Dagger w/Rare Variation Grip. WLASZOVITS, STOS over "27" TM. An example of this pattern dagger can be found on page 79 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger. Gilt finished hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to square shaped pommel and to the upturned crossguard with obverse and reverse center crossguard having a raised lion of Bohemia. Variation celluloid simulated burled walnut grip plates show only light surface wear with no cracks or chips. Polished blade grades VG+/excellent showing age/wear with one spot of lifting on obverse and reverse tip. Obverse ricasso is stamped with "097". Dent-free steel scabbard is covered in brown leather which shows only light wear with no rips, tears, or shrinkage. Upper, center, and lower gilt fittings show light age patina with one depression to the reverse of the center fitting as well as to the edge of the lower fitting. Exc/Exc+ (22369) $1,395.

Ultra RARE Miniature Polish Naval Honor Dagger.
No maker. A full- size example of this dagger can be seen on p. 31 of A Guide to Military Dress Daggers by Kurt Glemser. The quality of this beautiful miniature cannot be over-emphasized. It is actually of a higher quality than the actual full-size Polish Naval Honor daggers. Yellow celluloid grip has the Polish eagle attached. Scabbard leather is flawless and has red & white color insignia. Blue scabbard leather is perfect. Brass scabbard fittings are absolutely gorgeous. Attached to the scabbard rings is a high- quality set of blue leather hangers with brass hardware, to include the small rings and two upper belt loops. Blade is bright and will grade excellent++. Miniature WWII Polish Army Honor Dagger.
No maker. An example of the full size version of this dagger can be found on page 30 of A Guide to Military Dress Daggers, Volume I by Kurt Glemser. Overall length is 7-5/8". The quality of the piece is superior to its full-size counterpart. Beautiful grip features the Polish eagle attached to the obverse portion. Fittings appear to be coin silver. Leather- wrapped scabbard is beautiful. Blade is deeply engraved with the motto, "Honor I Ojcyzna" (translates to "Honor and Fatherland"). Blade condition is MINT. Scabbard is also MINT. Attached to the scabbard rings are two beautiful delicate leather straps with silver fittings similar to those seen on page 31 of Mr. Glemser's book, the only exception being that the buckles, rather than being rectangular, are oval and heavily silvered (in fact, probably all coin silver). Royal Rumanian Army Dagger w/Portepee & Hanger. No maker. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear to eagle head pommel with red glass eyes and portepee ring, as well as the oak leaf embellished down-turned crossguard. Black bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips, and with the gilt crown and "M" cypher of King Michael I (1927-1930 and 1940-1947) attached to the obverse grip plate. Nickel-plated, double-edged diamond cross-section blade measuring 5" in length shows light surface wear/runner marks, with one small nick to one cutting edge and a few specks of graying. Dent-free, nickel-plated scabbard shows light surface wear, with one tiny speck of lifting near obverse tip. Dagger is complete with original portepee featuring black cord with red & blue flecks, braided gold bullion stem, crown & acorn. Royal Rumanian Army Dagger w/Hanger
Examples of this dagger are shown on pages 229 and 230 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear to the eagle head pommel with red glass eyes and portepee ring, as well as oak leaf embellished down-turned crossguard. Reverse spine of hilt shows 2 spots of lifting to plating. Black bakelite grip plates show light surface wear with no cracks or chips and are complete with silver crown and "M" cipher of King Michael I (1927-1930 and 1940-1947) attached to the obverse grip plate. Nickel-plated, double-edged diamond cross-section blade measuring 6 ¼" in length shows light surface wear/runner marks with several small scratches on reverse. Dent-free nickel-plated scabbard shows light surface wear with a few specks of lifting to plating on bayonet-style suspension lug. Cased Royal Rumanian Officer Dagger.
No maker. Nickel-plated hilt fittings feature an eagle head pommel with red glass eyes and portepee ring beneath the eagle's beak. Down-turned crossguard is embellished with oak leaves. Hilt fittings are crudely cast but show virtually no wear or age. Black Bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips. Attached to the obverse grip plate is the gilted brass cypher of King Carol II, 1930 - 1940. Nickel-plated, double-edged diamond cross section blade measuring 5 1/2" in length shows minor runner marks on ricasso and is crudely machined when compared to German quality blades. Nickel- plated dent-free bayonet-style scabbard shows only light surface wear. Dagger is complete with black leatherette presentation case measuring 10 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 1-1/4" showing only surface wear. Interior lid is lined in light blue padded silk with lower portion covered in blue velvet and fitted to accommodate the dagger and scabbard. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light wear and features eagle head pommel with red eyes and nice detailing. Crossguard has oak leaf pattern with down-turned quillion. Black, Bakelite grip shows light surface wear with gilt crown and "M" cypher of King Michael (1927 - 1930 and 1940 - 1947) attached to obverse grip plate. Plated, stiletto-type blade measures 5 3/4" and shows light surface wear with some of the original grinding marks. Slovak Army & Government Official's NCO Dagger, Model 1939 w/Belt & Hangers
A photograph of this pattern dagger appears on page 243 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945, Volume I, by Robert J. Berger. Cast 1-piece nickel-plated hilt fittings show light age patina to pommel, grip straps, and crossguard. Crossguard quillons are flared upward with the cast Slovak crest on the obverse and reverse of the upper portion of the crossguard. 2-piece black bakelite grip plates show light surface wear, with no cracks or chips and with two retaining rivets properly placed. Plain, plated, double-etched diamond cross-section of blade shows light surface wear/runner marks, with no nicks or damage. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with upper, center, and lower fittings show light age patina to the stippled background. Dagger is complete with an original brown leather NCO Sam Browne style belt with cross strap and double suspension hangers. Slovak Army & Government Official's NCO Dagger, Model 1939.
Nickel plated hilt fittings show light wear with no damage. Top of crossguard features Slovak crest in circle with stippled background. Black celluloid grip plates are attached by 2 nickel rivets and show no cracks or chips. Plated blade grades excellent+ showing uniform graying but no pitting or nicks and has its black leather blade buffer pad intact. Plated steel scabbard with nickel-plated fittings is dent-free with light wear and age patina but no damage. Exc+ (15334) $1,295.

Soviet Air Force Dagger.
"ZIK" (in Cyrillic letters) 1951 TM. Gilted brass hilt fittings show virtually no wear and retain 100% of the gilting to the pommel cap and Soviet star, pommel with Soviet Armed Forces emblem on obverse and to the recurved crossguard. Medium orange celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks or chips. Plated mirror finish blade grades MINT with reverse ricasso serial numbered "C-N 118" and complete with black leather blade buffer pad. Black leather-covered scabbard shows only light wear with no rips or tears and is complete with upper, center, and lower gilted fittings with two suspension rings. SOLD Royal Yugoslav M-1937 Air Force Dagger w/Portepee. No maker. This pattern dagger is illustrated and described on pages 149 - 153 of A Guide to Military Dress Daggers, Volume III by Kurt Glemser and pages 265 - 269 of World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear to the stylized leaf style pommel and a few minor specks of lifting to the plating on the crossguard in the form of a 2-blade propeller with radial engine quillon block. Blue leather-covered grip shows light surface wear but no rips or tears, and is complete with tight brass twisted wire wrap. Plain, nickel-plated, double-etched diamond cross-section blade shows light surface wear/runner marks, with some lifting to plating adjacent to the crossguard, as well as a few specks of lifting along the cutting edge, and a few faint nicks to cutting edge. Blade is complete with dark brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free blue leather-over-steel scabbard with nickel-plated upper, center, and lower fittings shows light surface wear, with some faint surface depressions to leather but no rips or tears, and bears a strong resemblance to the 1st Model Luftwaffe dagger scabbard complete with two suspension rings. Obverse upper fitting features a gilt facsimile of the Yugoslav Pilot's badge with crown, eagle, and Yugoslav crest. Attached to the dagger is a rare Yugoslav Air Force Officer's silver bullion portepee featuring red & blue flecks in the cord and stem, as well as a red, white, and blue-flecked acorn insert.  Carl Eickhorn Export Swords
    Listed below are some of the original Carl Eickhorn export swords from their 1930s Showroom. These are the same swords that were seen in the showroom in the photographs taken during the 1930s and remained there until they were removed in the late 1950s by an Eickhorn swordsmith. A picture of this Showroom can be found on page 194 of my Volume I of "Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich". These swords all appear in the 1930s export catalogs that were used by the Eickhorn firm to sell their swords to other governments. Two of the swords have the original Eickhorn muster (sample model number) stamped on the blade. They also have an original price tag; although it does not have Eickhorn on the tag, it does list the Eickhorn model number (these same tags are visible in the referenced photograph). RARE opportunity to own a MINT example of an export sword from the original Carl Eickhorn Showroom. Museum quality!
